![]() Pavel Datsyuk was drafted 171st overall in the 1998 Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings. On October 4, 2001, he made his NHL debut in a 4-3 overtime win over the Sharks.
Pavel played his junior hockey in Russia. In 1996-97, he played for Ekaterinburg in both the Russian Superleague and the Russian first division. The following season, he again played with the team in the both the Superleague and the first division. In 1998-99, Pavel and his team split the year between the first and second divisions. In 1999-2000, he played 15 games for Ekaterinburg in the Russian Superleague before joining AK Bars Kazan. In 2000-01, he scored 26 points in 42 games for AK Bars Kazan.
Pavel scored four assists in seven games for Russia at the 2001 World Championships.
